The foundation has annual awards under two categories

The ICPF Humanitarian Award

This award of ICPF is awarded to key opinion leaders in the Cleft Lip and Palate rehabilitation. Only those pioneers who have selflessly promoted rehabilitation of cleft affected people through organized cleft volunteer mission, free surgeries, provided training to surgeons and cleft team are chosen for this award. The deserving candidates are chosen by the ICPF head office, invited for the Inauguration ceremony of ICPF yearly conference and awarded. Their citation is read and their lifelong effort recognized and the award is given with a standing ovation.

The ICPF- Prof David Precious Memorial Science Award

This is the highest scientific award of the ICPF. Named after, the founder chairman of the ICPF Late Prof. David Stanley Precious

Prof. Dr. David S. Precious, CM, was the Dean Emeritus and Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, who passed away on February 3 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Prof. David had the opportunity to train with world renowned cleft surgeon Prof. Jean Delaire in Nantes, France in the early 1980s. He later served as Canadian Dalhousie’s Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Sciences from 1985-2004 and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1987. In 2003, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, serving a five-year term before being named Dean Emeritus in 2008. Dr. Precious was a key opinion leader in cleft surgery and craniofacial reconstruction. He was widely renowned for his humanitarian outreach missions to developing countries through the ICPF and trained local practitioners to be able to provide treatment themselves.

Prof. Precious has written research manuscripts and experiences in hundreds of scholarly journals and publications, and delivered lectures across the globe. In recognition of his achievements, he was honored as a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, the Academy of Dentistry International, the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In recognition of his outstanding service to the profession of dentistry, Dalhousie’s University Medal in Dentistry was renamed the Dr. D.S. Precious University Medal in Dentistry in 2012. Prof. David Precious names synonymous with cleft rehabilitation and has brought millions of smile all over the world. Through his students and mentees, the legacy of Prof. David Precious lives on.

In recognition of his immense contribution to ICPF and Cleft rehabilitation, the ICPF has instituted the highest honor - Prof David Precious Memorial Science Award since 2016
